Secure DECT Certification Will Be Launched in Time
DECT Forum concluded a contract with Dosch & Amand for the development of the tester that will be used for the certification of Secure DECT devices. These devices need to be compliant with ETSI TS 102 841 V1.2.1 (2011-02), which signifies the first step in enhancing the security of DECT devices.
Under the contract Dosch & Amand will develop two different modules. One is the DA1220S, which includes the DA1220 workstation, 2 RF probes and the software to test the features specified in TS 102 841 V1.2.1. This module is targeted at customers who wish to test DECT devices and who do not yet have the DA1220 workstation. The second module is the DA1220-B32, which includes only the test software. This module is targeted at customers who already possess a DA1220 workstation, e.g. to carry out CAT-iq tests.
The test modules are targeted to become available at the end of April. In order to verify the tester, DECT Forum and Dosch & Amand request DECT Forum members to provide DECT portable and fixed parts.
The Security Working Group also started up the legal activities to protect the Secure DECT picture mark in all of the EU countries. The DECT Forum expects to be able to launch the Secure DECT Certification in the course of 2011.

Rapidly Growing Market for DECT ULE (Ultra Low Energy)
At the DECT World 2011 end of January the DECT Forum has released a White Paper about DECT ULE applications. This whitepaper presents the latest edition DECT Ultra Low Energy – a green communication technology. DECT ULE is based on the proven and established DECT standard. Therefore, the ULE benefits from years of industry support and the DECT Forum has formed a DECT ULE working group to improve the time-to-market of this technology.
ULE has all the traditional strengths of DECT (interference free, license free, security, authentication, long range, internet ready). With re-designed hardware and software components DECT ULE is optimized for low data rate application/CAT-iq data service profiles. It can also handle voice traffic by switching to the CAT-iq voice profile and still maintain a good Quality of Service (which is a unique feature of ULE compared to other low power wireless standards).
The low energy (ULE) version positions DECT in new and rapidly growing market segments beyond the traditional DECT telephony market, such as the wireless Machine-to-Machine (M2M) market – a rapidly growing segment. ETSI TC DECT has started the work on the “unlocked mode” specification, which is a pure sensor technology for event-driven applications with long reporting intervals and ultra low sleep current.
